Bangkok Glow Nightclub Janette Slack

FRIDAY 29TH APRIL!

9:30PM – LATE

We were lucky enough to secure Janette Slack fresh on her way back from her Australian tour! Rarely do we get the chance to catch someone of her caliber! Her credentials speak for themselves:

JANETTE SLACK

She’s a Mixmag future hero, a winner of the 2010 Pink Armada European female DJ competition, and she’s just returned to the studio for some exciting new productions. Welcome to Janette Slack.

“Top electro/breakbeat gal” – DJ Mag

This year has been a busy one for Hong Kong-born Eurasian DJ Janette Slack. While rocking her residency at London’s world-famous fetish night Torture Garden, she’s also started on a compilation album for the brand. This window into the Torture Garden dancefloor will feature mostly her original tracks alongside collaborations with other TG residents.
Her summer track ‘Slack in Black’ is a downright filthy electro tinged remix of AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’, which causing waves and interest in scenes across the board, from breaks to electro, in clubs and festivals. Previous releases have been supported by Carl Cox, Hybrid, Phil K, Evil 9 and D. Ramirez, whose 40th birthday bash she headlined at.

Her latest track ‘Queen of the Weekend: Girl in Black’ has been likened to the style of Scissor Sisters meets electro-tech. Out on Air Recordings in May. And been crowned ‘TUNE OF THE MONTH’ by Mixmag’s May issue.

Her new track ‘Slave to the System’ accompanied by the vocals of Kris Widakay and guitars by Tyrrell (Producer of Sasha Miami hit ‘Lalalalala’ and 90’s PM Dawn), is due release in July. She’s on a roll!

“A talented upcoming producer” – Hybrid

In January, Janette won the Pink Armada European Female DJ competition, beating out three other semi-finalists from 200 applicants to be the first Eurasian DJ to win a European title. A couple months later, she starred in a short documentary on her life, filmed and aired by Hong Kong’s BBC equivalent, TVB Pearl.
She has hosted the International Breakbeat Awards since 2008, when she took over from Annie Nightingale, proving that in a male-dominated scene, Janette is respected by both male and female peers. In and around all this are tours in Spain, Russia, Portugal and Croatia, along with her debut appearance in Bangkok’s Fashion Lounge and Zouk Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, she is currently on tour on her annual Australian tour through out April 2011 headlining 6 gigs and doing 2 photoshoots as well as collaborating in the studio with Western Australia’s finest acts, Micah and Philly Blunt.

“A hot ball of energy” – Soul of Man / Fingerlickin

When she’s not doing the international DJ thing, Janette stars in photoshoots with London’s edgiest independent designers, who love her Sex Pistols style and twisted burlesque attitude. Designers familiar with her look now custom-make clothes for her to wear at gigs and photoshoots – to name a few, UK’s Lady Lucie Latex, Japanese label Kaori’s Latex Dreams, and the venerable Stu Vern of Murray and Vern, the man to thank for introducing latex to Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood in the late 80s.

“Future Hero” – Mixmag

Looking back, Janette was never one to wait for the world to happen. At the ripe young age of 17, she started promoting nights and DJ-ing in her hometown of Hong Kong. By 20, she was off to London to study sound engineering at the SAE, a course she passed with distinction. At the same time, she juggled it with a part-time job at Vinyl Addiction, one of Camden’s most historical record shops. Unlike the stereotype of the hot girl DJ, Janette’s image does not alienate fans holding two X chromosomes – in fact, she has an unusually large and loyal female fanbase.

“Not just a pretty face – sorry” – TimeOut

One of dance music’s most charismatic young figures – London clubbers will be familiar with her turning up to gigs on her infamous roller skates – Janette is a breath of fresh air in the club scene (you can still find Doug ‘Scratch’ Pray’s short film ‘Veer’ about her online). Sharp taste brings sexy, rolling breaks to meet energetic techy electro house with a progressive edge. Her funked up mashups combining the likes of Gwen Stefani to Run DMC, Jamie Lidell and Peaches have rocked nights on and off the dancefloor. And when she fires up Logic, her studio career and musical experience means she’s far more than a bedroom producer and engineer.
As well as designers and musicians, Janette is also working on music with some of her favourite comedians from the original cast of ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’– but that’s to be revealed in 2011.
